Hi! My name is Jimmy Hovey and I own Jimmy Barnwood. We are located in Clare, MI in the heart of barn country. I just passed 5 years since I first fell in love with barnwood. I got started by cleaning up a barn that was owned by a cousin. My goal was to get 3 pieces of barnwood for laundry room shelves but then evolved into a full-time business from there.
I often refer to Jimmy Barnwood as a "Perfect Storm" of all my passions; Barns, Business, Marketing, Wood, Equipment, Creativity, Design, and Sales. I started my first business at age 14 and have been involved in many different types of both my own and family businesses over the past 32 years.
It turned into a serious business about 3 years ago and we have been growing steadily ever since. We now work out of a 15,000 sq ft shop and office and my team includes 4 other full time barnwood addicts who are just as passionate about barnwood as I am! Click here to go to the About Us Tab.
I am affectionately referred to as "Jimmy Barnwood" by many of my customers and I likely don't need to explain how I got that nickname? I didn't think so. We do all kinds of projects, let's talk about our core reclaimed wood products. Our core line of products include:
The photo below is me in front my favorite barn...and no worries, we're not taking this one down! It's my favorite barn because it's on the farm that my Dad grew up on. This barn is now owned by my Uncle in Rosebush, MI. Isn't it a beauty? I never thought growing up as a kid that barns would be part of my future especially since this one in particular was responsible for a couple of hospital visits! It's here that my parents discovered I had asthma...and in those days they didn't have inhalers!
I have since outgrown it, but I would have never imagined having a business dealing with barns! But here we are and welcome to our little corner of the internet.
Ready to take a look around? Let's go...
At Jimmy Barnwood, we manage the entire lifecycle of the wood from dismantling old barns all the way through to the finish product.
Since we take down our own barns, we are able to keep track of where the wood for your floor, accent wall, special piece of furniture, DIY kit or fireplace mantel came from.
We know the story. Sometimes a long story from the Owner or sometimes just simply a photo and what we know about the barn. We happily share what we know about the barn or structure where your wood comes from.
